Ohio State Praise Song
Ohio State, we come to you,
A care-free happy throng,
Thy sons and daughters all are true--
They join us in our song.
We bring to thee our joyous praise;
Our hearts o'erfill with love.
As thy proud banner high we raise,
Unto the heav'n above.
Thy sons have grown to man's estate;
Their children's children too.
Have learned to love Ohio State,
With love both deep and true.
For sunny climes, mid winter snows,
For lands beyond the sea.
From ev'ry vagrant breeze that blows
Come praises unto thee.
This song was an entry in The Ohio State Alumni Association Song Contest in 1916. It was published in Songs of Ohio State University. Unfortunately, there is no additional information about this song, other than the composer and its publication. Also, Carmen Ohio, by 1916, was solidly in place as the Alma Mater of Ohio State, thus relegating this song into historical obscurity.
