The Early Years

I was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York (62 miles; 100 km; east of New York City), as the third of five siblings (2 older sisters, 2 younger brothers). I grew up in an area of Huntington Township known as Elwood, which was settled in the late 1600s shortly after the founding of Huntington (1653) proper. Elwood is a small community (by Long Island standards) of about 11,000 and is located about 1.0 mile (1.2 km) west of Smithtown Township. I attended my first two years of high school at Elwood/John H. Glenn High School. Later, we moved to Smithtown, New York. For my final two years of high school I attended Smithtown High School East. The town of Smithtown, New York, was founded in 1665. See the interesting anecdote about Smithtown's founding, it is truly a "bull" story! During my High School years I participated in Track, Cross Country and various other organizations.

The College Years

Upon graduation from high school, I left Long Island to attend The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. I majored in Roman and Greek History and received a BA degree from the College of Humanities. While attending OSU, I participated in Track, Cross Country and other various athletic activities. Like most of the student body, I attended some great football games at Ohio Stadium, cheered on the Buckeyes. During my first two years at OSU, I lived in Ohio Stadium with 300+ hearty souls (after the 1997-98 school year the Stadium Dorm closed as part of the Ohio Stadium renovation). After my stadium years, I was a member of the Iota Chapter of Chi Phi Fraternity. In order to pay for the college experience and earn some extra cash, I worked for the OSU Computer Science Department, which operated a Digital Equipment Corporation (now part of HP Corporation) DECsystem-10 computer system (I had exposure to this computer system during my high school years).

The Career Years

Once graduated from college, I went to work in the Information Technology field, as there were more chances of earning a living in computers than with research in history. I started out as a programmer with the State of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Since then, I gained experience in various operating systems and hardware environments, while employed at several places including Digital Equipment Corporation in Dallas, Texas, Rice University in Houston, Texas , University of Colorado - Boulder and DigitalGlobe in Longmont, Colorado. I supported various environments, such as OpenVMS, UNIX, Linux, Windows, etc. In addition, I supported Networking, Host Security, Web Servers, Mail Servers, etc. I also found time to get an MBA degree, while working full time, from Amberton University in Dallas, Texas. Over my career I have lived in Ohio, Connecticut, Texas, Wisconsin, and Colorado. I currently reside in Longmont, Colorado, which is about 10 miles (12 km) northeast of Boulder and 35 miles (42 km) North-Northwest of Denver. I retired in December, 2017.

Hobbies

My hobbies include reading, hiking, camping, hunting, shooting, soccer, football, taking long drives to the mountains, art, astronomy, history, geography, geology, paleontology, meteorology, classical music, church choir, Native American History and Culture, classic movies (circa 1930s, 1940s, 1950s), classic animation, and enjoying the scenic beauty of Colorado. Finally, I maintain the Songs of The Ohio State University website.
